Al Veoli: Dating, Dating, Marrying?

Al Veoli

Dear Al Veoli:

I've been dating my boyfriend for about 4 months. He broke up with another girl to go out with me. I just found out that the entire time we were together he's been emailing, instant messaging, and talking to her. I can't stand it. What do I do?

-Miserable

Dear Miserable:

It is far from ideal to be in a relationship with someone one can't trust. Though it is often personal business who we choose to talk to or not, the fact that this is you beau's ex-girlfriend is a particularly muddy subject. Converse with your boyfriend. Hold a meeting. Schedule a meal. Articulate your concerns and say that if he wants to be in a relationship with you, he should be honest about with whom he is communicating.

Dear Al Veoli:

I went out with this girl for six months and really liked her. During that time I also went out with a boy, and by the time my girlfriend and I broke up, I was basically the girlfriend of this guy I had dated on and off. He's really great and we have so much fun playing videogames together. Anyway, then I broke up with him to be with her again, and I miss him. I don't know where my heart is, you know?

-

Dear :

Some people believe in the idea of one true love, and others don't. Some people believe in polyamory, and others don't. It depends where your heart is. If you know you want a monogamous relationship, then maybe you should be independent for a while and not date anyone while you contemplate your existence, as it seems like whether you're with this boy or girl you're not satisfied.

Dear Al Veoli:

What is the appropriate amount of money to give at a cocktail wedding? I was told that the appetizers cost $11.00 a person and that the wine is homemade.

-Clueless

Dear Clueless:

This person is of the opinion that the appropriate amount of money depends more on your relationship with the couple than how much the wine and cheese sticks cost. Some people can have a lavish wedding and others can't, and the gifts should not be proportionate to that.
